Digital Video Awards a Stellar Success

DVA PosterAfter last year’s fabulous annual Digital Video Project awards, the world’s film cognoscenti said it couldn’t be bettered. Little did they know of the depth of artistic and cinematic talent to be found in our schools.
In truth, there was little to suggest that new heights were to be reached as the Middlesbrough movie glitterati paraded down the red-carpeted entrance to Cineworld to take their seats. Fans jostled to see their heroes and photographers fought to get the best shots of the fashions sported by the glamorous young stars. However, it was clear from the outset (after the nominees had dined on popcorn, a fruit drink and appropriately, Milky Way Stars) that something special was going to happen.
We were not disappointed. The audience were spellbound as they watched a variety of techniques and genres from stop-motion to digital animation, from documentary to breaking news, from comedy to drama, from the poignant to the heart-rending. It was all there. Moreover, every work had a message expertly elucidated and conveyed through the digital medium.
The hardest job of the night fell to the judges, PC Lumley, Mrs. Julie Cordiner, Mrs. Trish Grosvenor, Mrs. Sue Pattison, who retired into conclave for what seemed an eternity. Everyone was a winner but who would the overall winner be, would the results of their deliberations be met with universal approval? As nails were bitten to the quick the judges returned to declare the winner. The stress of picking a winner from such excellent entries clearly showed on their faces. A winner there has to be though and general acclaim, approval and applause broke out as Easterside were announced winners of the Digital Video Awards for 2010.
As always at these occasions , much work goes on behind the scenes. The event would not have been possible but for the efforts of the ICT Administration team Lisa Cowley and Rosa Doidge, Andrew Jones for the excellent artwork and Brian Meehan for lighting.
Many thanks to Cineworld for their help in hosting the event and special thanks to Mouchel who sponsored it.
Last, but by no means least, we are grateful to Mr. Paul Cowley who organised and promoted the event as well as editing the individual films for screening.
