Who are we?
The Traveller Education Consortium works with schools and Travellers across the three boroughs. The aim of the Consortium is to ensure successful access to appropriate education, and to support the school and family so that the pupil can fully access the curriculum.
The team consists of:
- Margaret Reynolds - Co-ordinator
- Kath Wilson - Part Time Teacher
- Lisa Callaghan - Full Time Teaching Assistant
- Julie Bunn - Full Time Teacher
- Diana Neville-Smith - Part Time Teacher
- Beryl Chan - EWO, family support
How we do this:
The Consortium carries out its duties by:
- Providing training to school staff, promoting an inclusive and diversity- aware curriculum, and sharing good practice.
- Advising on teaching strategies and materials to aid inclusion.
- Providing awareness and diversity training for other agencies and services.
- Offering help and advice to Traveller families on accessing school.
- Providing home/school liaison.
- Assisting with the production and monitoring of Distance Learning packs.
- Supporting schools with Self- Evaluation and preparation for Ofsted.
- Where necessary, and appropriate, helping with the pupil's induction into school and classroom support.
- Providing cultural resources on loan to enhance the curriculum.
Who can access our service?
Anyone involved in education or working with the Travelling communities. Schools do not need to have a Traveller on roll to access our diversity /awareness work.
All Travellers whether they live a mobile life- style or not can avail themselves of our service. Gypsy, Roma and Irish Traveller are defined as ethnic groups under the law and as such remain ‘Traveller' regardless of where or how they live.

If you are working with Travellers or wish to provide an inclusive curriculum by including Travellers, contact us using the information at the top of the page.
