Supporting School Success
Celebrating, Supporting, Monitoring, Challenging And When Necessary, Intervening In Schools Causing Concern
The Supporting School Success guidance outlines the LA approach to monitoring its schools and forming a view as to the level of support needed. This is done using a 4 point scale aligned to Ofsted categories and related to the school's SEF and the 5 ECM Outcomes. The process includes in an annual school review and report which makes judgements based on the four areas of achievement and standards, pupil well being, quality of provision and leadership and management. Schools designated for level 3 and 4 support are monitored and supported by a Core Action Team which is led by the schools adviser.
The introduction of School Improvement Partners has been accommodated within an interim approach to SSS. This has required the adaptation of the SIP reporting framework to match LA procedures.
The most recent DCSF guidance on Schools Causing Concern introduces the duty on LAs to issue a Warning Notice to schools under certain conditions of concern.
We have significant capacity in our level 1/ 2 schools to share good practice and support other schools.
A working group of senior School Improvement Staff and head teachers has been set up to review our current SSS guidelines and to take account of the key issues above. This group will agree draft updated SSS guidelines by the end of the spring term 2008. The final version will be in place by the end of the summer term. Annual school reviews and SIP annual reports have been moved from February to either side of the summer holiday so that support will coincide with the school year rather than the financial year as at present. The SSS review Guidance will be ready for the first round of annual school reviews under the new schedule.
Training sessions will be held with SIPs in the summer term.
