Multi-skills academies
Multi-skills are a key part of talent identification and for many sports form the initial part of their long term athlete development plans. These skills are based on the Fundamentals of movement (agility, balance and co-ordination) from which most sporting skills are developed such as throwing, catching, running, jumping and striking.
Since 2004 Sports Development and Kings Manor Schools Sports Partnership have been delivering year 6 multi-skill academies for each of our 9 secondary school clusters.
The secondary school SSCo's visit their primary schools to identify the top sports students in each school. They are then invited to their clusters 2-day multi skill academy.
The academy is then a mixture of activities to work on the athletes multi-skills and also to introduce them to aspects such as goal setting, time management and support structures. Which will help them develop the sporting abilities and identify aspects of their lifestyles they need to work on to become elite athletes.
An example of one of our programs can be accessed here.
