More Information Regarding CME in Middlesbrough

With effect from September 2007, all Local Authorities were given a new statutory responsibility to identify children missing from education and those pupils at risk of being missing from education. In Middlesbrough, the Pupil Support Team is undertaking this work. This will involve the team establishing and monitoring a proactive system for seeking information regarding such pupils, recording the details and tracking/monitoring the progress of such pupils as they are re-engaged in education. Significant information has previously been made available to the LA by parents, schools and other agencies regarding children missing from education e.g. excluded pupils, children whose families are seeking a school place and pupils not on school roll for other reasons.

The implementation of the new statutory duty has provided an opportunity to review and improve existing procedures and to develop links with key partner agencies as part of this task. Statutory Guidance for LA's February 2007:

“ The duty applies in relation to children of compulsory school age who are not on a school roll, and who are not receiving a suitable education otherwise than being at school (for example, at home, privately, or in alternative provision).”

If you wish to report a child missing from education or at risk of being missing from education you are welcome to contact the Pupil Support Team as follows: Named CME Contact Officer: David Ball, Principal Pupil Support Officer, Middlesbrough Local Authority Tel. (01642) 201828/201834
