Group Travel Insurance Policy
Abbreviated Summary of Cover
The Council's Group Travel Insurance available for trips undertaken by Council establishments provides the following benefits:-
Cancellation Expenses
In the event of an intended traveller being unable to travel, or the trip being interrupted as a direct result of events outside their control the Policy will meet the undernoted costs up to a maximum of £1,000:-
A) Loss of deposits etc.
B) Additional travel and accommodation costs
NB . 1) Inability to travel due to Government Regulations, military service, or
failure of a travel agent or accommodation provider is not covered.
2) Failure to travel due to the free choice, for whatever reason, of the intended
traveller is not covered.
Medical And Emergency Travel Expenses
In the event of a traveller suffering accident or illness in the course of a trip the Policy will meet the costs of:-
A) Medical Expenses incurred outside the UK .
B) Additional costs of repatriating a sick or injured person, or their body, and funeral costs
C) Expenses incurred by near relatives in visiting a traveller detained in hospital.
Cover is limited to:-
Either A) 1) £ 250,000 for any one person.
2) £2,000,000 for all claims arising from a single incident.
Or B) 1) £1,00,000 for any one person.
2) £5,000,000 for all claims arising from a single incident.
NB. The limits applicable to individual trips are specified in the Certificate issued to confirm cover for the trip.
Personal Accident
The Policy provides a range of benefits for travellers suffering permanently disabling injuries, and modest weekly benefits for those temporarily disabled.
Personal Effects and Money
The Policy will meet the costs of loss or damage to baggage, clothing, personal effects or money, subject to the following limits:-
A) Any one article or pair - £ 500
B) Money - £ 5 00
NB : Party Leaders carrying money for others are covered up to £2,500
C) All property of a single traveller - £1,500
D) Skis, ski-sticks and bindings - £ 200 (additional to above limits).
This cover does not include fragile articles, contact lenses, sports gear in use, or property left overnight in ungaraged vehicles, nor losses not reported to Police within 24 hours of discovery. In the event of baggage being delayed by a minimum of 12 hours a benefit of up to £100 per person is payable for the purchase of essential items such as clothing or toiletries.
Personal Liability
Public Liability insurance is provided by the Council's annual policy for all claims arising from the business activity of the travellers, or the organised activities of school parties. The Group Travel Policy provides additional insurance for any claims made against individual travellers arising from activities in their private time. This is subject to an indemnity limit of £2,000,000.
